## What a Negative Lab Pro crack actually saves.

**The plugin's price, while the editor underneath carries on.** If you already pay for Adobe, and that is the common case, a crack saves Negative Lab Pro's price and that is all of it. The subscription to Lightroom Classic carries on, bought or cracked.

| Criterion | Open Negative Initiative | Negative Lab Pro, bought | Negative Lab Pro, cracked |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| The plugin | Free, GPL-3.0 | $99 once, plus Adobe | $0, plus Adobe |
| Editor underneath | Itself: it is the application | Lightroom Classic, by subscription | Lightroom Classic, by subscription |

Negative Lab Pro price, trial limit, host and platforms from [negativelabpro.com/pricing](https://www.negativelabpro.com/pricing/), consulted 1 November 2026.

- **A cracked installer comes unsigned.** The cracked build comes from a stranger, and it runs against your whole photo library.
- **A cracked plugin stops at the next update.** The cracked plugin stops at the next Lightroom Classic release, and stays there.
- **Open Negative Initiative is checkable.** Open Negative Initiative has one origin, the source of each version ships with it, and the app installs an update only if its signature holds. [What macOS asks the first time](https://open-negative-initiative.com/download#verify).

## Negative Lab Pro's free trial.

**24 conversions, no watermark, and it is the full program.** Negative Lab Pro is a good tool with a real reputation, and the way to settle this is your own roll, in each.

- **Run Negative Lab Pro's trial on a roll.** Negative Lab Pro's trial converts a whole roll, free, inside Lightroom Classic.
- **Measure the same roll in Open Negative Initiative.** Open Negative Initiative is free outright, for every frame you convert.
- **Look at the two.** Both are free to run, straight from their makers.

## Where your colour comes from.

**Your roll first, then your frame, then your file.** Both applications carry instruments for colour: Negative Lab Pro has an automatic balance with several modes and presets for dye separation. Open Negative Initiative starts from your whole roll.

Twelve frames of one roll, illustrative, and the window read across them

| 1 | 0.15 | 0.71 |
| 2 | 0.16 | 0.65 |
| 3 | 0.14 | 0.62 |
| 4 | 0.16 | 0.72 |
| 5 | 0.13 | 0.68 |
| 6 | 0.17 | 0.71 |
| 7 | 0.15 | 0.97 |
| 8 | 0.10 | 0.66 |
| 9 | 0.14 | 0.70 |
| 10 | 0.15 | 0.61 |
| 11 | 0.17 | 0.71 |
| 12 | 0.11 | 0.70 |
| The roll's window | 0.13 | 0.71 |

***Twelve frames, one window.** Each bar is one frame's own black and white. Your roll's window is read across all of them, near the ends, a step inside the most extreme frame, so it follows the typical frames and the light leak of frame 7 sits above it. A diagram on illustrative values; the rule is the app's.*

- **Your roll, measured once.** Every frame opens on the roll's window, so a thin negative and a flat scene stay apart. [One measurement per roll](https://open-negative-initiative.com/features/roll-measurement).
- **Your negative, converted in density.** Every stop of your scene keeps the same room, and Exposure reads in EV. [Density inversion](https://open-negative-initiative.com/features/density-inversion).
- **Your colour, held to the file.** Your photo is shown in the space the export writes, from sRGB to your paper's profile. [Colour management](https://open-negative-initiative.com/features/colour-management).

What Negative Lab Pro offers for automatic balance and dye separation, and the steps of its route: from the author of this site, who uses both tools, 23 September 2026.

## What one application saves, and what it asks by hand.

**From your scan to your file, in one place.** With the plugin you convert, export a TIFF, then edit the TIFF, with Lightroom Classic at the head of all three. In Open Negative Initiative you edit the negative itself.

[Read the research](https://open-negative-initiative.com/negative-lab-pro-crack#why-your-scans-exif-names-the-wrong-camera)

- **One application.** Your scan, your edit and your export in one place, and your editing starts on the negative itself.
- **Whole frames, one by one.** A strip shot in one go is cropped frame by frame; every control acts on the whole frame, and the De-dust brush works where you paint.
- **Your crop travels on its own.** Copy, Paste and PASTE TO ROLL in the Crop tab carry the framing, and a settings paste keeps the crop you drew by hand.

## Before you download.

**Capture One, who builds it, and Windows.** Three things worth knowing first.

### If you use Capture One

Negative Lab Pro has never existed for Capture One, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to crack. Capture One added its own negative conversion in version 16.7.4, in March 2026, so a Capture One user is choosing between that conversion, Open Negative Initiative, and something else entirely. [What each does differently, and who should stay](https://open-negative-initiative.com/negative-lab-pro-alternative#capture-one).

And the field is wider than two: [Negative Lab Pro alternatives, eight tools compared](https://open-negative-initiative.com/negative-lab-pro-alternative).

### One person builds it, and here is the rhythm

Open Negative Initiative is built by one developer, so here is the scale to weigh it on. Open Negative Initiative 1.0.0 came out on 4 October 2026; the latest version is 1.5.4, from 2 November 2026, and every release note is on the changelog. Public since **5 August 2026**, **76 versions** so far: a very active and very young project. [Read the changelog](https://open-negative-initiative.com/changelog).

And the licence keeps it going: the full source of each version ships with that version, under the [GPL-3.0](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html), so anyone can pick up the last one and carry it on. [Where the source is](https://open-negative-initiative.com/open).

### On Windows

Everything on this page holds on a PC: Open Negative Initiative runs on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) too, free, from [the same download page](https://open-negative-initiative.com/download). The two costs of a crack beyond its price, the unsigned installer and the plugin that stops at the next Lightroom Classic release, apply on Windows exactly as on a Mac.

## Negative Lab Pro crack: questions

**What photographers ask before converting.** The short answers first, then the detail.

### Is there a working Negative Lab Pro crack?

Some work, for a while, and serial keys go round with them. Three things break either way: the plugin stops at the next Lightroom Classic release and stays there, you are running an unsigned installer from a stranger against your photo library, and you keep paying for Lightroom Classic every month because the plugin lives inside it. That last one is usually the largest number.

### Where can I download Negative Lab Pro for free?

From its author, the free route is the trial, so a copy offered free anywhere else is a cracked build, whatever the page calls it. A converter that stays free is a different application, with its own code: a free standalone converter, like Open Negative Initiative or NegPy, runs on its own on macOS and Windows, free to keep, every feature open.

### I already pay for Lightroom. Does the cost argument still apply?

It shrinks to the plugin, and that is the most common case. If the subscription is already in your bank statement, cracking the plugin removes the whole of the remaining cost. The two reasons left are the unsigned installer and the breakage at each host update.

### Will the free alternative give me the Negative Lab Pro colours?

Open Negative Initiative gives you its own colours, from its own code. They come from a measurement: each roll is measured whole, once, before its frames are edited, and every frame opens on its roll's window, so a thin negative and a flat scene stay apart and the range follows the roll's typical frames. Then Auto White Balance gives a frame its own first colour, on a click, and a Scanner face offers ONI's own look or a Frontier, which you switch to yourself. The route differs too: Open Negative Initiative edits the negative itself, in one application; the plugin has you convert, export a TIFF, then edit the TIFF, starting in Lightroom Classic.

### Does Negative Lab Pro have a free trial?

Yes. The official trial is the full program: 24 conversions, no watermark. If you want to try the real thing before deciding, that is the way to do it.

### Can I use Negative Lab Pro with Capture One?

Negative Lab Pro runs in Lightroom Classic and has never existed for Capture One. If Capture One is your editor, its own Convert Negative or a standalone converter is the tool to look at.

### What do converted frames look like?

[See all sixteen conversions](https://open-negative-initiative.com/gallery), real photographs converted in Open Negative Initiative, each with its raw scan.

## The research.

**What your scan holds, and what to do with it.** Why a raw scan is orange, how to scan a roll so it converts as one, what its EXIF gets wrong, and how one look covers a whole roll.

***The mask is one density per channel.** Density per channel, on an illustrative film: the mask, in grey, sits under every tone of the frame, densest in blue. Clicked on bare film in Prepare the Roll, it comes off each channel, and a grey of your scene stands at the same 0.5 in all three.*

### Why your raw scan is orange

The orange of a colour negative is a mask, built into the film base to correct the impurities of its dyes. Every frame sits on it, and you can see it alone in the rebate, the bare border around and between your frames, where no light reached the film.

In Prepare the Roll you click that bare film, and Open Negative Initiative takes its orange as the black of every channel: the mask is gone before you touch a slider. Keep a little rebate in each scan, and the base is always there to click.

| | A flagged frame | The other frames |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Converted | Yes | Yes |
| Opens on the roll's window | Yes | Yes |
| Counts in the measurement | No | Yes |

***Flag the Frames Left Out, the fourth step.** Flag light leaks, the cut first frame and extreme shots: left unflagged, one of them can wash out or tint the whole roll.*

### When one frame is not like the others

A light leak, a frame fogged at the end of the roll, a frame shot straight into the sun: one odd frame can tint or wash out a whole roll if it counts like the others.

Flag it in the fourth step of Prepare the Roll, Flag the Frames Left Out. A flagged frame is still converted and opens on the roll's window, and the measurement is read from the frames that are alike.

| Keep it the same | What it sets | If a frame was shot otherwise |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Shutter speed | How much light each frame gathers | Marked, and evened out to the roll's exposure |
| ISO | How bright the same light records | Marked, and evened out to the roll's exposure |
| Aperture | The light gathered, and your lens's vignetting, which the flat-field measured | Marked and evened out, and best shot again |

***One exposure, read off every scan.** Prepare the Roll reads each frame's shutter speed, aperture and ISO in its EXIF, written the way a photographer writes them: 1/50 s, f/5.6, ISO 100.*

### Scan the whole roll the same way

The roll's measurement reads one film under one light, so give it one: the same light panel, and your camera in manual, with the same shutter speed, aperture and ISO for every frame. If you scan with a camera, a photograph of the empty panel, the flat-field, evens out your lens falloff and your light first.

Prepare the Roll reads each frame's shutter speed, aperture and ISO, marks the frames digitised with other settings than the rest, and evens their exposure out to the roll's. A different aperture also changes the vignetting the flat-field measured, so those frames are best shot again.

| EXIF field | In your camera scan | In your export |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Camera | The camera that photographed the film | The roll's camera body, once you name it |
| Film | Nothing | The roll's film stock |
| Lens | The lens of your scanning rig | Corrected by you, photo by photo |
| ISO | Your scanning ISO | Corrected by you, photo by photo |
| Date | The day you scanned | Corrected by you, photo by photo |
| Artist and copyright | Your camera's, if it writes them | Yours, as you last typed them |

***Seven fields, and nothing else.** Each photo's export line opens with the roll's camera and film in place of the scanning camera's; a field left empty writes no tag at all.*

### Why your scan's EXIF names the wrong camera

A camera scan carries the EXIF of the camera that photographed the film: its lens, its ISO, the day you scanned. None of it is the camera, the film or the day of the roll you shot.

In Open Negative Initiative, a roll can name its camera body and its film, and each photo's export line opens with them in place of the scanning camera's. You correct the rest, photo by photo: lens, ISO, date, artist and copyright. The file carries the seven fields you see, and nothing else. [Export and EXIF](https://open-negative-initiative.com/features/export-and-exif).

| Gesture | Lays the look on | Asks you first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Paste Settings | The photos you select | When the look comes from another roll |
| PASTE TO ROLL | Every frame of its roll | When the look comes from another roll |

***One frame right, then the roll.** Each frame then takes its own small corrections, and the crop you drew by hand stays: a settings paste never carries it.*

### One look across a roll

The frames of one roll were exposed on the same film and developed together, so once one frame looks right, the others are usually close to it.

Paste Settings lays that frame's look on the photos you select, and PASTE TO ROLL on every frame of its roll; laying one roll's look on another roll asks you first. Then each frame takes its own small corrections.
